Finnish performance artists Maximilian Latva and Katri Kainulainen are partners in art and life. They have worked together since 2014 and performed in Sweden, Norway, Lithuania (in CREATurE Winter 2015) and Germany as well as Finland.

Maximilian’s background is music. Katri is a second generation performance artist, also curating and organising performance art events.

Kainulainen & Latva’s collaborative work is tight and their performances could be described as fantastic realism. In their intense performance pieces the artists explore male and female roles in an exaggerated, sarcastic way. Through this role-play they question the normalcy of a relationship, the social construct and the institution of a family. Often times the surface of their performance seems to be a funny clowning, yet it opens up to questioning relationship as longing, relationship as suffering, relationship as horror, relationship as farce.
